Virtual Reality designed, fully digitalized substation to reduce the environmental impact whilst enabling a more resilient and sustainable grid around Trondheim
Project: Tensio TN decided to establish a new substation at Sutterø. Various manufacturers presented solutions for gas-insulated switchgear. Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Norway was eventually chosen by Tensio TN to deliver a solution including an eco-efficient gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), with AirPlus™. Dimension 10's software was introduced by having design reviews on the deployment of equipment and visual display of products to deliver. Tensio TN and Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Norway are using Dimension10 to simplify communication with their BIM consultants, engineering consultants/suppliers of power components and main contractors by using VR as a meeting platform across 3 different cities.
By using Virtual Reality decision-making are based on more information, mistakes can be avoided while time spent on travelling is reduced to a minimum.
VR enables new working methods and efficient collaboration
Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Norway is considering using D10 in several different operations. As an example it is considered a powerful sales tool for virtual interaction with customers. In addition Hitachi ABB Power Grids in Norway highlights an opportunity of having Dimension10 ready and available in the bidding phase by introducing customers for a virtual model to secure that a solution that best suits the customer’s needs are provided.

«This was our first interaction with VR for engineering and it blew us away. We have now signed an agreement with Dimension10 aiming to actively use the software on different multi-discipline projects. The interface coordination in VR is a goldmine for the types of projects that we are involved in. We see this as one of the biggest benefits together with a clear illustration of our scope of work which also our sales department will benefit from. We have still not seen any software that competes with Virtuaview from Dimension10 within these areas»
